Outreach - Water Cart

The CRD Water Cart will be at Metchosin Day.

Bring your own bottle for free refills.

The Sunday right after Labour Day is always Metchosin Day. It is a fun day and free for the whole family. Starting at 8 am the five-kilometer run/walk leaves from the community hall and ends at the municipal grounds. There are valuable prizes (fresh Metchosin produce) for fastest in all age classes, and terrific draw prizes. When you have finished running have pancakes at the Scouts tent for breakfast then stick around for the prizes from the 5km run of fresh vegetables and trophies given at the pavilion at 10:30 am.

Not only is Metchosin Day free, so is the parking. There is space for hundreds of cars right next to the village green. Enter off Happy Valley Road and exit out Rocky Point Road.

More than 100 vendors will be set up on the village green – from CRD Parks to your septic tank, Farmer’s Market, wool spinning, pottery, jewelry, produce, dog treats, soaps, plants, herbs, balloons, fashions, honey, aprons, baked goods, flowers, natural wood products, jams, body art and so much more. See the list of vendors.

Around the grounds at Metchosin Day you can watch and be part of the Malahat Mauraders, the Ranns water pump, blacksmiths, sheep shearing, dunk tank, backhoe and hay rides for kids, and more!!

The Village Green activities start at 11 am with the Pet Contest. All pets are welcome. At 12 noon take part in children games.

New for 2015

New this year – At 1pm we will have Yikes Bikes Extravaganza. Bring your decorated bike to the Village Green for prizes in lots of categories. Check the contest web page for more details.

On our front field there will be an astral show. Check out the Space Bus and models of the solar system and an Ecliptic Calendar setup across the field. Sharing the field will be the Project Germani, a historical reenactment of the first century BC to the first century AD. Learn about food, crafts, armour, clothing and more.

vcmNew this year on the front field will be a motorcycle demonstration by Victoria Motorcycle Club. The motor sport involves riding over obstacles, some manmade, others more natural like mountainous ruts. These riders will be riding their bikes over logs, walls and giant triangles. The skill of the rider is monitored by a checker who tracks the rider’s performance. The goal is for the rider to maneuver the bike in a manner that requires focused balance involving complete control of throttle and machine. The fewer the points collected the more skilled the rider has proven himself to be. Spectators will have an opportunity to speak with the riders and see their bikes up close between demonstrations. These young men are demonstrating their sport in an effort to promote it to other young people.

NEW – Metchosin Day Kick-Off Dance on Friday, September 11th from 7 pm to midnight. Join the Metchosin Community Association for an 80’s themed dance with live music at the Community Hall. Tickets are $15 and should be purchased in advance at the Metchosin Community House.

Old Barn Books has something for every book lover and right next door is the Pioneer Museum. Here you can learn about the history of Metchosin. Again this year we will have the Vintage car show beside the Old Barn Books. It will bring back memories of cars of yesteryear. If you want more information about the car show contact at Nicole Valentine-Rimmer at nvalentinestudio@gmail.com. Spend the day checking out the old cars, then stop by in the afternoon to the community house for tea and scones, where you can see the amazing photography contest on the walls and a chance to hear some nice music too. A wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

The Metchosin Equestrian Society has a great day of events planned for Metchosin Day at the Riding Ring (4450 Happy Valley Road). Early birds can enjoy a coffee and breakfast sandwich or a lunchtime hotdog from our concession under the grandstand as you watch the Manestream Vaulters perform gymnastics on horseback. There will be lots of action and variety as local trainers and coaches, horses and riders demonstrate their specialized skills throughout the day. A complete schedule of events and times will be posted shortly.

And last but not least, VOLUNTEERS. Metchosin Day works because of the volunteers. If you would like to help out for one or two hours or more, please give Mary Gidney a call at 250-474-6145 or email at info@metchosinday.ca
